Debbie Byrne, 62, Staten Island, NY, USA. “I lost everything I’d worked for.” | Deborah had been in her home since 1988. In 2011 she was affected by Hurricane Irene and she had to remortgage her house in order to re-do her basement. Hurricane Sandy which struck in 2012 was much worse and she was forced to evacuate. Along with her son, she had to climb onto a floating shed in order to get across the torrent of water to her neighbours house and the safety of their attic space.
