Richard Hawk, Bishop, Mono County, California, USA. “ I lost the house I built with my son”. | Richard lost his home in wildfires in February 2015. The fires consumed his entire home and the property of his son who lived beside him. Richard says, ‘I lost really precious things…the home my son and I built with our own hands.’ Richard is a keen carpenter and lost his life’s collection or work. He also lost his entire savings, which he had in a ‘fireproof’ safe, which was completely incinerated. He and his son got by through donations and shelter from neighbours. They now live in a mobile home on their property and they lay the foundations to build new, albeit it much smaller permanent homes.
